Tamworth fell to their first pre-season defeat of the new campaign at the hands of Coleshill Town.
The Lambs couldn’t follow up their impressive win over West Bromwich Albion six days ago, as the Colemen bagged a hard-fought win courtesy of goals from Videl Hendrickson and Kai Tonge.
Coleshill started the better and tested Jas Singh a number of times in the first ten minutes. If Liam Molesworth’s seventh-minute back post header was easy to deal with, Tonge gave the Tamworth stopper a bit more to do moments later.
Dexter Walters had looked to be causing problems for the visitors and almost got his reward after 16 minutes. He latched onto Chris Cox’s ball over the top and looked to place it beyond Paul Hathaway. But the towering keeper was equal to it.
Jordaan Brown’s whipped cross almost got a trialist a goal, but he could only nod narrowly wide just before the first-half drinks break.
Molesworth again almost capitalised on some loose Tamworth play. Cox’s attempted header clear fell into the Coleshill striker’s path but he couldn’t get enough power on it to trouble Singh.
Ben Hart almost broke the deadlock when he had Hathaway sprawling across his goal – his 30-yard effort the closest Tamworth had come to scoring in the half.
Coleshill’s Hendrickson had the opening goal of the game four minutes before the interval. The defender latched onto Danny Tymon’s dummy that allowed him time to chop back inside on the corner of the box and curl a left-footed shot into Jas Singh’s top corner.
With only 90 second half seconds on the clock, Tonge was adjudged to have been fouled in the box. The Coleshill man dusted himself down and sent Singh the wrong way from the sport to double the visitors’ lead.
Just after the hour mark, Tyrell Waite lifted a shot narrowly over the bar after some good combination play between Walters and a trialist in the midfield.
Dan Creaney was next to go close for the Lambs. Ryan Beswick sent a deep ball into the box from the left side, but Creaney could only head over from close range.
Tom Parker was becoming a problem on the right after coming on. With little over five minutes left, the youngster smashed a low ball across the box that just needed a touch from Waite, but he couldn’t make any sort of contact.
In truth, Tamworth were in control from the point when Coleshill made it two but the Lambs couldn’t find a way through.
