Tamworth are heading into the new season with a stronger squad than previous seasons.
That’s the view of the Lambs’ joint boss Gary Smith as he gears his side up for their first pre-season friendly.
With the players back in training ahead of next Tuesday’s opener with Chasetown, Smith believes they could be better than ever.
“I think we’re stronger than last season,” Smith said.
“There’s a lot more experience around the squad, a lot more players who have played at the level.
“We’ve got a good crop of youngsters too so it’s an exciting future for the football club. With what we’ve put together, we’re quite strong and those young players can learn a lot too.”
As part of a packed pre-season schedule, National League pair Notts County and Chesterfield are both visiting the Lamb over the coming weeks.
And with a number of other big friendlies lined up, Smith is tipping his side to go all guns blazing into the new Southern League season.
“I think we can hit the ground running,” he said. “The players we’ve kept on have been given programmes to do throughout the pandemic and I know they’ve been looking after themselves. The new players that have come in are constantly looking after themselves as well.
“Pre-season will be interesting, and it’ll give everyone a chance to get up to scratch. Those new players will get chance to integrate into our systems and how we play, that will all come together before the season starts.
“It’s exciting to be back, there’s only so much shopping I can do! It’ll be good to have something good to look forward to and hopefully we get the chance to go the full hog this time and be successful.”
