Tamworth’s rivals strengthen as new season draws closer

With just 63 days left to wait for the start of the new Southern League season a number of sides have started to strengthen.

The new campaign gets underway on August 14 and already some eye-catching signings have been made.

Peterborough Sports have kept most of their squad from the previous two season together – but it was a double swoop for two former title winners that got people talking.

Ryan Fryatt and Michael Gash, both Southern League champions with King’s Lynn Town two years ago, were confirmed by Turbines boss Jimmy Dean this week.

Liam McDonald finally got his hands on Simeon Cobourne at Rushall Olympic.

The Pics’ boss admitted he had ‘tried to sign him on numerous occasions’ after the club announced his signing from Halesowen Town.

Cobourne is joined at Rushall by ex-Atherstone Town man Sam Fitzgerald while Michael Nelson joins from Walsall Wood.

Nuneaton Borough have had their usual flurry of pre-season transfer activity.

Boss Jimmy Ginnelly has brought in defensive reinforcements in the guise of Tom Armitage from Burton Albion and Adam Pepera, who switches from Enfield Town.

Nathan Hayward and Liam Spink are back for Bromsgrove Sporting – but the Rouslers have announced a pair of big departures as Mikey Taylor and Chris Lait both leave.

Lowestoft Town have snapped-up former Norwich City and King’s Lynn Town winger Ryan Jarvis.

Alvechurch are another side who have been busy – goalkeeping duo Matt Sargeant and Olly Taylor are on board. Young midfielder Peter Taylor has also penned a new deal.

A number of Hednesford Town’s squad are back. Club legend Ben Bailey heads a long list of players to commit that also has goalkeeper Andy Wycherley.

Another fan favourite Kieran Wells joins new Pitmen striker Reece Styche in leading the line.

Needham Market have snagged winger Andy Fennell from Chelmsford City and Kyle Hammond from league rivals Leiston.
