Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor put Non-League clubs on red alert yesterday after suggesting on social media that he could be about to come out of retirement.

The 34-year-old Englishman hasn’t played since leaving the Villa in 2018.

Most recently, he’s been working as a pundit for radio station talkSPORT, and tweeted saying he would play for free if someone wanted him to sign.

Here’s the tweet.

A number of clubs responded – Tamworth’s rivals Hednesford Town were in for him.

Sutton Coldfield, Leamington and Hashtag United also sent admiring glances as the tweet racked up almost 13,000 likes in just under two days.

It remains to be seen if he was being serious. One thing is for sure – Gabby won’t be short of a club if he does decide to lace up his boots again.
