Gary Smith says Gerry McDonagh is ready to show Tamworth fans the best of his ability after rejoining the club ahead of the new season.

The former Nottingham Forest striker only made on appearance at the back end of last season before the campaign ended early.

Now back for a second spell, Smith believes McDonagh can provide good competition for the likes of Dan Creaney.

“We felt that we’ve got good players in nearly every position,” he said.

McDonagh’s only appearance last season came against Stratford Town.

“But we just thought in that number nine position that we needed to add to it, especially with the worries we’ve had with injuries over pre-season.

“We weren’t sure who was going to make it for the start of the season so Gerry gets another opportunity to show us what he can do.

“He looks a lot slimmer and a lot sharper than he did when he was previously with us so hopefully, you’ll see the best of him this time around.
