“Sunday League Stuff” | Tamworth Fans React To News About Unusual Coalville Town Postponement

In the midst of Winter you might not be too surprised to see games called off for a waterlogged pitch, occasionally a frozen pitch. In the current climate, a virus is causing games to fall.

But there was some interesting news breaking out of Coalville Town this evening after the club announced the postponement of their scheduled Southern League Premier Central game with Tamworth.

The reason? The referee, and his assistants, had broken down!

To make matters worse, the Ravens claim they were not made aware of the situation by the officials until 6.30pm – little over an hour before kick-off.

Tamworth players, officials and fans had already arrived at the ground only to be turned away. Here’s how they reacted on Twitter:

“What a complete joke @FA or who ever is in charge of the shambles of the refs should get a replacement,” wrote ‘@johnshelley15.’

One fan offered to help the referee out, writing: “I’ll pick them up, where are they,” while ‘@Scottgarbs’ was more direct with his take on the situation. “F*****g joke,” he wrote.

Even Guy Hadland offered to help get the game on. The boss of league rivals Barwell tweeted, “Yeah I’ll pick them up,” after one fan suggested, “Can’t they get picked up ffs.”

It’s a frustrating turn of events for the Lambs who were hoping to regain top spot from Peterborough Sports.

After the postponement, players and fans went for a pint in nearby pub The Engineers Arms

Gary Smith and Andrew Danylyszyn’s Lambs are level on points with the Turbines with three games in hand. They will now have to wait until Saturday’s home game with Stourbridge for any action.
