Southern League Premier Central side Stourbridge parted company with their manager Ian Long earlier today.
It might have come as a shock to some, with the Glassboys just a point outside of the play-off places despite losing to Banbury on Saturday afternoon.
After taking charge at the War Memorial Ground in the summer after a successful stint with Alvechurch, Long led the Stourbridge to the FA Cup first round proper this season, losing to National League side Eastleigh.
His departure has certainly split opinion amongst fans.
“Truly shocked & sad. After hearing the praise given to him & his team for their hard work by the board at the AGM, they at least deserved a full season,” wrote @janetillie on Twitter.
Some were more to the point. “Truly gutless, pathetic and cowardly decision,” @JackNev20 said.
@RobSmart99 wrote: “Poor decision should have been given more time. He’s a top manager who will prove elsewhere and at higher levels how good he is.”
Not everyone was sad to see Long leave however.
“I wish Ian Long all the best, but I think this is the right decision for Stourbridge FC,” wrote @JAYNEHAMILTON2.
@Mossi28 thinks he knows why the decision was made. “Right decision, letting 50+ goals walk out the door is absolutely unforgivable!” he wrote.
