Tamworth joint-boss Gary Smith isn’t often a man lost for words. But after Saturday’s rout of Biggleswade Town, he ran out of superlatives for one player in particular.
And Smith hopes any aspiring footballers in the crowd were watching closely.
“What can I say? Captain fantastic,” Smith told Lambs Media. “He might not look like the greatest shaped player on the park and people will always make comments about that.
“But when you have the ability he has, you can really show what you can do. For any aspiring young footballers in the crowd that want to be at that level, he is a prime example to take note of because he’s absolutely brilliant.”
After his brace against Biggleswade Town, that included a 30-yard pile-driver to open the scoring, Beswick is now on 17 goals for the season – something that has pleased Smith.
“If a striker has scored 17 goals for us we would’ve said brilliant,” Smith explained. “But to get that from midfield is a fantastic achievement.
“When it came out to him and he was coming onto it, I was saying “he’s going to hit this, he’s going to hit this,” and it was a fantastic strike and the keeper hasn’t seen it.”
