Tamworth have to shut out the noise around them and concentrate solely on their own game if they are to win the Southern League Premier Central title this season, according to Gary Smith.
The table-topping Lambs blew away Biggleswade Town on Saturday while a number of their promotion rivals dropped points.
Bromsgrove Sporting, Stourbridge and Rushall all lost while Royston Town needed a last-minute winner to see them past Hednesford.
But as much as they wouldn’t turn down a few favours around them, Smith doesn’t want to have to rely on anyone else but themselves to bag the silverware this season.
“Before the game, I told the boys we are doing this one game at a time,” Smith told Lambs Media.
“I just had a feeling today somewhere along the line someone was going to drop points and if you look at some of the results that have gone in today, it’s fantastic for us.
“But we just need to concentrate. We’re not going to be worrying about other teams results, it’s about our own results and what we do – and if we’re winning our football matches then hopefully we can achieve the goal we set out at the beginning of the season.”
Elsewhere, Smith praised the performance of midfielder Jimmy Fry, who scored in the 4-0 win over Biggleswade Town on Saturday.
“I’m very pleased for Jimmy,” Smith said. “He’s been putting in some fantastic performances all season and we’ve been dying for him to score.
“He’s put his body on the line for us on several occasions so I’m very pleased.”
