MATCH REPORT | BetVictor Southern League Premier Central: Peterborough Sports 4-2 Tamworth

A double from Dion Sembie-Ferris helped Peterborough Sports see off promotion rivals Tamworth in a feisty encounter at the Bee Arena.

The second and third-placed sides were separated by just two points going into the game but two goals from Sembie-Ferris and a goal each from Mark Jones and Abduramane Sano-Sani saw the Lambs put to the sword.

After scrappy opening exchanges that saw both sides battle for the upper hand, the home side raced into a two-goal lead in four minutes.

With 26 minutes on the clock, Joshua Moreman’s long ball forward was raced onto by Sembie-Ferris who composed himself and lifted the ball over the head of Tamworth keeper Jas Singh.

Just four minutes later, a defensive mix-up in the Tamworth back line enabled Mark Jones to gobble the ball up and slot home comfortably for the Turbines’ second.

Tamworth made two changes at the break and it looked to pay immediate dividends when Dan Creaney latched onto Tyrell Waite’s scuffed volley – swivelling home to get the visitors back in the game.

But if the travelling fans thought that might spark a second half comeback, they were wrong.

Just after the hour mark, Sembie-Ferris skipped past Henri Wilder on the right before his 20-yard strike from an angel somehow found its way through the bodies in the box and into the bottom corner to restore Peterborough Sports’ lead.

And just like the first half, the home side didn’t have long to wait for another strike. This time, a low ball in from the left was stabbed home by Abduramane Sano Sani for four.

Tamworth got another goal back five minutes from time through Ahmed Obeng, wriggling past a challenge in the box before fainting and smashing home at the near post to reduce the deficit to two.

Dan Creaney blazed over not long after that as the Lambs looked to mount a comeback, but it was the home side who held out for what could prove to be a huge three points in the Southern League Central promotion race.
