Tamworth hit a goal-glut against Solihull Moors on Tuesday night to convincingly book their place in the Birmingham Senior Cup semi-final.
The Lambs went into the game with the National League Moors after back-to-back league defeats – and the fans were treated to an eight-goal thriller.
A brilliant Henri Wilder hattrick was the highlight for the home side with Dan Creaney’s hitting a brace a goal from Ahmed Obeng all before the interval.
Despite the Moors starting on the front foot, Creaney had the Lambs in front after seven minutes, latching onto Obeng’s slide rule pass before his low shot wriggled under Andy Wycherley.
Former Hednesford keeper Wycherley’s night was about to get a whole lot worse. After 12 minutes, with Obeng bearing down on goal, he brought down the Tamworth winger to give Creaney a chance to double his tally – a chance he duly converted.
What came next was four goals in 14 minutes as the Lambs took a stranglehold.
First, Jordan Clement carved open the backline for Henri Wilder, playing further forward on the wing, to round Wycherley and slot home with ease.
Obeng was next to net as Creaney turned provider – nodding down for him to control and hit a powerful drive beyond Wycherley. Creaney then notched another assist, this time playing in Wilder to slot home for five.
Three minutes before the break, Wilder secured the match ball. Aaron Forde picked out Wilder from the halfway line and he had all the time in the world to compose himself before smashing in from close range.
Creaney could’ve got his hattrick but skied a penalty before the break. After the interval, a revitalised Solihull Moors got two goals back through Alex Gudger and Darren Carter but it was Tamworth who held on to book their place in the last four.
